Taiwo has created a support group which has become a lifeline for families within the African and Caribbean diaspora affected by Autism by providing support, resources and empowerment to families. This support group has over the years grown into a vibrant community where parents, educators, and others can connect, share experiences, and find solace and where children and adults can learn, grow, and thrive through basic sewing programs and other creative workshops.
my fashion story and the birth of aCAFSG
As a trained fashion designer, I spent my spare time making African attires for women. Through this, I met six other women, who like me, were caring for special needs children. Recognizing the opportunity to support each other, I reached out to them , and together, we decided to start our own support group and in 2018, I founded the African Caribbean Autism Family Support Group (ACAFSG)
Four years later, my sister’s friend Dr. Dianne Regisford helped connect me with Mrs Jacqui Gitau, leader of AFIUK, who assisted me in establishing my group. Dr. Dianne Regisford also connected me with another group called Makespace Oxford which offered me a safe and comfortable venue for ACAFSG activities on a weekly basis. Additionally, I rented one of their spaces for my clothing business, thus enabling me to support ACAFSG Group members and their families while also pursuing my entrepreneurial endeavors.
ACAFSG is more than just a support group. It’s a lifeline for families within the African and Caribbean diaspora affected by Autism. Our mission is to provide support, resources and empowerment to families facing similar challenges. We aim to create a safe space where parents, educators, and others can connect, share experiences, and find solace.
Acafsg, initially founded as an autism support group, has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. What began as a humble gathering of families and individuals seeking support and connection has blossomed into a thriving organization offering a diverse range of skill-building and empowerment programs.
Beat of Togetherness
Acafsg’s Afro fitness Dance group was born out of a desire to create a fun and stress-free environment for parents caring for special needs children. Initially launched in Abingdon, the group provided a much-needed outlet for these dedicated caregivers to let loose, socialize, and recharge.
Expanding the Beat to Oxford
Encouraged by the success in Abingdon, Acafsg expanded its Afro fitness Dance group to Oxford. As the group grew, it began to attract individuals from all walks of life, drawn by the infectious energy and welcoming atmosphere.

Today, Acafsg’s Afro fitness Dance group has evolved into a vibrant community where people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and abilities come together to dance, socialize, and support one another. The group’s inclusive spirit has created a safe space for individuals to express themselves, build connections, and feel a sense of belonging.

Expansion into Skill-Building Programs
As Acafsg continued to grow, its mission expanded to include providing opportunities for individuals to develop new skills, build confidence, and unlock their creative potential. This shift led to the introduction of innovative programs, including:
Sewing Workshops
Designed for juniors (aged 8-16) and adults. These workshops make fashion education accessible, enjoyable, and enriching for everyone. Under Taiwo’s guidance as the director of Taiwil Fashion and Creative Studio, these workshops have become beloved destination for fashion enthusiasts, providing a supportive environment where individuals can explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop valuable skills.
Hair Mastery Programs
Catering to both men and ladies. These programs teach various hairstyling techniques, modern and trending hairstyles, promoting self-care, confidence, and entrepreneurship.
JX AU Craftory
This creative hub offers a variety of activities, including beadwork, rhinestone design, drawing, painting, and shirts branding. Participants can explore their artistic side, develop new skills, and showcase their creations.
Creative Rhythm Program
Acafsg’s latest addition is the “Creative Rhythm Program”, where music and instruments take center stage. This program provides a unique opportunity for individuals to discover their musical talents, develop new skills, and express themselves through melody and rhythm.
